Fans of Stranger Things have cancelled Metallica after the band’s song Master of Puppets was included in the most recent season of the beloved television programme. The decision was made in response to a popular TikTok that exposed the storied band’s “problematic” background.

Serena Trueblood, also known as “Is Your Fav Problematic,” a TikTok user, recently became well-known after making a video on the band’s dubious background. The social media user also posted a video of Jason Newsted, the former bassist for the heavy metal band, seeming to do the Nazi salute while performing. The TikToker also emphasised how the band members openly made fun of Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of Nirvana, and Layne Staley’s heroin addiction.

In a Trueblood video, Metallica vocalist James Hetfield was also accused of racism. In one segment of the TikTok video, Roberta Freeman, a Guns N’ Roses backup vocalist, claimed that the lead singer had used a pejorative term to characterise rapper Ice-T.

Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses allegedly accused James Hetfield of racism in another TikToker video that reportedly included references to Ice-T and the band Body Count.

Ulrich, a Danish drummer and lyricist who is the other founding member, has contributed to every aspect of the band’s work since its inception, earning him the moniker “ul(tra)-rich.”

Because Ulrich owns a huge number of lucrative properties, his estimated US$350 million net worth exceeds that of fellow OG member Hetfield. He used Loud Wire to sell his San Francisco hilltop house in 2020 for US$10.3 million. Only five acts have sold more concert tickets than Metallica since Pollstar was established as the most reliable source for the live entertainment industry: U2, the Dave Matthews Band, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and Elton John, in that order.

The Rolling Stones, who have made $2,165,280,638 over the past 40 years after selling 22,137,799 tickets, are at the top of the list of musicians by box office receipts according to the research. Metallica is rated ninth on this list with earnings of $1,219,599,179, surpassing Paul McCartney in tenth place ($1,193,812,645) but falling short of artists like Bon Jovi, Madonna, and Celine Dion.
